Patna, November 17, 2025: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar convened a cabinet meeting today, during which the decision to dissolve the 17th Bihar Assembly was formally approved.
The meeting began at 11.30 am at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with all ministers of the current cabinet.
Bihar Water Resource Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary stated, “The cabinet has approved the dissolution of the current Assembly, which will officially end on November 19. The cabinet has also appreciated the work done by officers and employees during the Assembly elections, and all legislators have congratulated Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for securing a strong mandate in this election.”
Nitish Kumar informed the Bihar Governor about the cabinet decision:
Following the meeting, Nitish Kumar proceeded to Raj Bhavan, where he submitted the approval letter to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan.
He also informed the Governor about the cabinet decision to dissolve the Assembly on November 19.
Until that date, Nitish Kumar will continue to serve as Chief Minister.

After the resignation tendered, the process of forming a new government will officially begin.
The NDA will soon hold a meeting to elect the leader of its legislative party.
After the selection, Nitish Kumar will stake his claim before Governor Arif Mohammad Khan to form the next government.
The Governor is expected to invite him to the oath-taking ceremony accordingly.
Preparation for the swearing-in ceremony begins:
Preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony, which is likely to be held at Gandhi Maidan, Patna.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several ministers, and senior leaders from various states are expected to attend the event.
During the recently concluded Bihar Assembly election 2025, the BJP won 89 seats, the JDU 85, the LJPRV 19, the HAM 5 and the RLM 4.

On the other side, the RJD won only 25 seats, Congress won 6 seats, the left won 3 seats, and IP Gupta’s party won one seat in the Assembly election.
