Water levels of several rivers have risen in Bihar.

Patna July 1: The water levels of several rivers in Bihar have indeed risen due to continuous rainfall over the past three days.

This situation typically occurs during the monsoon season when heavy rains lead to increased water flow in rivers and tributaries across the region.

The precipitation causes rivers to swell as water accumulates from the catchment areas.

Rivers including Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati,  Budhi Gandak, Kamla Balan, Son, and Punpun have seen an increase in water levels. Despite this, the water levels are currently below the danger mark.

Water Resource Department and Disaster Management teams are likely on high alert, monitoring the situation closely. Control rooms are operational to coordinate response efforts and ensure timely interventions if the situation escalates. Measures are being implemented to safeguard against flood-related issues.

The water level of the Gange River at Digha Ghat, Patna is 45 meters while the danger mark is 50.45 meters, 43 meters at Gandhi Ghat in Patna while the danger mark is 48.60 meters. The Current level of the Ganga River in Hathidah is 35.22 meters while the danger mark is 41.76 meters.

The current water level of the Punpun River at Sripalpur Patna is 44.66 meters and the danger mark is 50.60 meters.

The current level of the Son River at Koilwar, Bhojpur district, is 46.21 meters and the danger mark is 55.52 meters.

According to an official, 1,96,405 cusecs of water were discharged from Kosi Barrage on Sunday evening.

The monsoon arrived in Bihar with some delay, and there has been 54.4 mm less rainfall than normal. However, some districts like Araria and Kishanganj have experienced above-normal rainfall. The normal rainfall was 133.3 mm.

The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for several districts including West Champaran, East Champaran, Kishanganj, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Madhubani, Supaul, and Araria.

The increasing water levels, while below the danger mark currently, indicate the potential for further complications if rainfall continues unabated. Authorities are prepared and taking proactive steps to mitigate risks and ensure public safety.

Residents in low-lying areas along these rivers are typically advised to remain vigilant during such periods. They need to stay informed about local advisories and take necessary precautions to mitigate risks associated with rising water levels.
