Poster war between Congress and BJP erupts in Patna ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s 1 day visit.

Patna January 17, 2025: As Congress leader Rahul Gandhi prepares to visit Patna on Saturday, January 18, a political poster war has erupted between the Congress and BJP on the streets of Bihar’s capital.

Rahul Gandhi is set to attend the “Constitution Security Conference” and a worker dialogue program

during his visit. While the grand old party is keen to give him a grand and dignified welcome, the BJP has countered

with sarcastic posters targeting his statements and legacy.

Congress’s warm welcome:

Congress leaders have adorned the streets of Patna

With posters welcoming Rahul Gandhi and highlighting the significance of his visit. The party sees his presence as a boost to morale ahead of upcoming elections, showcasing his leadership and commitment to democratic values.

BJP’s counterattack through posters:

The BJP has responded with a series of critical and sarcastic posters, using Rahul Gandhi’s past statements to question his leadership and ideology.

One poster quotes Rahul Gandhi as allegedly claiming that his grandfather, Jawaharlal Nehru, played a role in defeating Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar in an election. The BJP labelled this as a “reminder to the countrymen” about Congress’s controversial history.

Another poster highlights Rahul Gandhi’s alleged statement that “Hindus are violent.” In the BJP’s response, their poster reads.

“I thought of reminding the Hindu brothers of Bihar.” A third poster references the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi, quoting Rahul Gandhi as saying, “Congress does not believe in the Constitution, that is why Dadi imposed Emergency.” The BJP’s counter reads. “I thought of reminding the brothers of Bihar.”

BJP leader Shailesh Mahajan criticized Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of disrespecting the Constitution and Dr. Ambedkar. Mahajan further alleged that the grand old party’s leaders were desperate to project Gandhi as a Prime Ministerial candidate despite his lack of merit.

“Rahul Gandhi neither believes in the Constitution, nor Bhimrao Ambedkar, nor does he respect anyone. Congress leaders should tell us what ability he has. His only qualification is that he is the grandson of the Prime Minister, the son of the Prime Minister, and the great-grandson of the Prime Minister,” said Mahajan.

Municipal Corporation’s clean-up drive:

On Thursday, the Municipal Corporation removed many posters from Patna’s streets as part of a cleanliness drive, with a significant number belonging to Congress. However, Congress was quick to replenish the posters on Friday, reasserting its presence, while BJP intensified its counter-campaign with fresh displays.

What began as a poster war now risks escalating into a full-blown political standoff, with both parties using this opportunity to intensify their rhetoric. Rahul Gandhi’s visit, which is seen as an important event for Congress, could deepen the political polarization in Bihar as BJP and Congress compete for influence in the state.

This conflict underscores the charged political atmosphere in Bihar, with both sides seeking to sway public opinion through symbolic gestures and aggressive messaging. The fallout from this ongoing clash could shape the narrative leading into future elections.
