Patna November 2, 2024: JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar alleged Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), of preventing his father, and party’s national president Lalu Prasad Yadav, from actively participating in the nomination of the Bihar by-polls and Jharkhand assembly elections.

Despite being the star campaigner for RJD, Lalu Prasad Yadav has not been seen participating in the campaign, nor was he present for the nomination process of candidates aligned with the Grand Alliance.

MLC Neeraj Kumar claimed Tejashwi Yadav deliberately restricting Lalu Prasad:

MLC Neeraj Kumar questioned Tejashwi’s decision, suggesting that Lalu Prasad Yadav’s political influence was deliberately restricted.

“Is Lalu Prasad’s political relevance over?” Kumar asked, adding that Lalu is capable of public appearances—given he’s often seen in Patna and interacting with people, including visiting spots like Marine Drive and Mahuabagh in Patna—then Tejashwi should clarify why his father is not active in Bihar by-poll and Jharkhand assembly election.

Lalu Prasad underwent kidney transplant in 2022:

Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is over 75 and underwent a kidney transplant in Singapore in 2022, has understandably reduced his public appearances and active campaigning.

While he continues to influence RJD’s policy decisions and offers strategic guidance, his health constraints have limited his physical involvement in rallies, especially in intense campaign periods like the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Despite these health-related limitations, political opponents frequently target him and his son, Tejashwi Yadav, alleging that he has effectively placed Lalu Prasad under “house arrest” by restricting his public appearances.

Critics suggest that Tejashwi Yadav is side-lining his father or politically restraining him, questioning why Lalu Prasad is absent from campaign trails despite being a central figure in the RJD.

However, RJD leaders argue that his actions are motivated by concern for his father’s well-being, given the significant health risks associated with high-stress public appearances and travel for someone who recently underwent major surgery.
