Gurugram, June 5, 2026: Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced two major biogas initiatives on the occasion of World Environment Day, further strengthening its efforts to build a cleaner and more sustainable energy ecosystem.
The company revealed that it will establish a 10 Tonnes Per Day (TDP) biogas plant at its Kharkhoda manufacturing facility while also expanding the capacity of its existing biogas plant at Maneser.
Maruti Suzuki will invest Rs 150 crore in green energy:
In a written statement issued by Maruti Suzuki India Limited, it will invest Rs 150 crore in the two projects as part of its long-term strategy to integrate renewable energy solutions into its operations.
The initiatives are aligned with the Government of India’s broader Waste to Wealth mission, which promotes the productive use of agricultural and organic waste.
The new 10 TDP biogas plant at the Khakhoda facility is expected to be commissioned during the 2026-27 financial year.

According to the company, once fully operational, the plant is expected to mitigate approximately 9,490 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, meet nearly 20% of the facility’s total gas requirement, and utilize organic and agricultural waste as feedstock for renewable energy generation.
Maruti Suzuki has also increased the output capacity of its Maneser biogas plant from 0.2 TDP to 0.7 TDP.
The expanded facility is expected to generate around 3.6 lakh standard cubic metres of biogas annually, resulting in an estimated reduction of 664 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
The Maneser plant processes a variety of organic materials, including food waste, Napier grass, and paddy straw, with the capability to further enhance production through the use of cattle dung.
Using anaerobic digestion technology, the plant converts these materials into raw biogas, which is then used in paint shop heating operations and canteen facilities within the manufacturing complex.
In addition, the process generates Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) as a by-product, which can be utilized for landscaping within the facility or returned to the agricultural sector.
CEO highlights energy security and sustainability:
Commenting on the initiative, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said the company has consistently worked toward reducing fossil fuel consumption and lowering dependence on imported oil.
“The expansion of biogas infrastructure comes at a time when global energy markets remain uncertain and aligns with the national objective of promoting cleaner energy sources and reducing reliance on conventional fossil fuels,” Takeuchi said.

He added that these projects form part of a broader sustainability strategy that includes the expansion of both biogas and solar power capacities across its operations.
Maruti Suzuki has announced plans to invest Rs 925 crore in green energy initiatives by FY 2030-31, reflecting its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while supporting India’s transition toward a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
