Chandigarh, June 3, 2026: Rao Narbir Singh, the Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister, has said that climate change has become one of the most serious challenges facing the world and requires coordinated scientific, technological, and policy-driven solutions.
As part of Haryana’s response, the state government has announced the creation of the Haryana Green Climate Resilient Fund in its 2026-27 budget with an initial allocation of Rs 100 crore.
Rao Narbir Singh stated that the fund is intended to strengthen the state’s resilience to climate change while promoting environmentally sustainable development.
Rao Narbir Singh says the World Environment Day event will be held in Gurugram:
A state-level celebration of World Environment Day 2026 will be held in Gurugram on June 5.
During the event, the Haryana government is expected to showcase its initiatives related to environmental conservation, climate action, and green development.
According to Rao Narbir Singh, this year’s theme is, inspired by nature—for the climate—for our future.

The proposed Rs 100 crore funds are expected to support a wide range of environmental and climate-related initiatives, including promotion of zero-emission vehicles, expansion of renewable energy efficiency, water conservation measures, urban greening and afforestation, climate—resilient agriculture, and nature-based environmental solutions.
The government believes the fund will help address challenges such as air pollution and water pollution while attracting innovation and investment in the environmental sector.
Mission to clean the Yamuna:
Rao Narbir Singh also highlighted a special mission-mode initiative to clean the 313-kilometre stretch of the Yamuna River that flows through Haryana.
The program, being overseen by Nayab Singh Saini, includes increasing sewage treatment capacity, preventing untreated waste discharge, real-time monitoring of industrial units, conservation of riverbanks, development of green belts, and groundwater recharge measures.
According to Rao Narbir Singh, the government plans to ensure scientific treatment of water from all drains flowing into the Yamuna during the 2026-27 financial year, with the objective of significantly improving river water quality.

Rao Narbir Singh expressed confidence that these initiatives would strengthen environmental protection efforts in Haryana and support sustainable, inclusive, and green economic development.
He also urged citizens to adopt environmentally responsible lifestyles and avoid the use of single-use plastics, emphasizing that public participation remains essential for long-term environmental success.
