Gopal Jee Thakur removed the turban after his 13-month-long vow was fulfilled.

Patna November 14, 2024: Darbhanga MP Gopal Jee Thakur honored a 13-month-long vow by immersing his turban in the Ganga at Simaria Dham in Begusarai on Thursday.
Gopal Jee Thakur had pledged not to remove his turban until the foundation stone of AIIMS in Darbhanga was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On Wednesday, with the Prime Minister’s foundation-stone-laying ceremony, Gopal Jee Thakur’s pledge was fulfilled.
Gopal Jee Thakur expressed gratitude to PM Modi:
Celebrating the occasion, he expressed gratitude to PM Modi and dedicated the act to the 8.5 crore residents of Mithila.
At Simaria Dham, he immersed his turban in the Ganga, gave thanks to Maa Ganga, and sought blessing from the saints.
“I expressed my gratitude to PM Modi for the healthcare gift to the people of Mithila. AIIMS in Darbhanga is a significant project for the quality healthcare facility in the region,” Thakur said.
“With the blessings and love of the people, I made a sincier effort for AIIMS and fulfilled my resolution in the form of Darbhanga AIIMS. I have immersed my turban (Muretha) in the Ganga River,” he said.
Samrat Chaudhary had a similar vow to Gopal Jee Thakur:
Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has also made similar symbolic gestures involving his turban in the past.
When Nitish Kumar severed ties with the NDA and formed an alliance with the RJD, Chaudhary, then appointed as the BJP’s Bihar president, vowed not to remove his turban until Nitish Kumar was ousted from his position.
After 17 months, Nitish Kumar ended his alliance with the RJD and re-formed the government in Bihar with the BJP.
Despite the renewed NDA alliance, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary continued to wear his turban, a symbolic gesture tied to his pledge to see Nitish Kumar ousted.
This decision led to ongoing political exchanges and comments between JD(U) and BJP leaders, with JD(U) leaders particularly urging Chaudhary to end his vow and remove the turban.
When the NDA government was fully established under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, Chaudhary faced increasing pressure to conclude his pledge.
Finally, after the Lok Sabha election, with the NDA government secured through JD(U)’s support, Chaudhary traveled to Ayodhya’s Saryu River.
There, in accordance with the symbolic resolution of his vow and in acknowledgment of the alliance’s stability, he removed his turban, officially marking an end to his pledge.
