Bullet train project in Bihar gaining momentum as land acquisition begins in Patna.

Patna, April 18, 2025: The long-cherished dream of a bullet train in Bihar is steadily moving towards reality, with the land acquisition process gaining speed across five districts, including Patna.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has identified the land required for constructing a 260 km elevated track as part of the ambitious Varanasi-Patna-Howrah High-Speed Rail Corridor.

As per the route, 58 villages in Patna district will be affected, requiring 135.06 hectares of land for the project.

The Circle Officer of Phulwarisharif has issued notices to landowners, requesting submission of property-related documents.

The state government will give land compensation to the tune of 4 folds to the circle rate in rural areas and 2 folds to the circle rate in urban areas.

The Varanasi-Patna-Howrah corridor will span 799.293 km. with trains running at a speed of 350km/h.

Travel time from Varanasi to Howrah: Approximately 3.5 to 4 hours.

The Bullet Train elevated track will be developed in phase-wise:

As per the Phase 1, the elevated track construction will take place in Patna, Buxar, Ara, Jehanabad, and Gaya districts and the expansion from Delhi to Varanasi comes under Phase 2.

Patna alone will see a 60.9 km long elevated track, with significant land development and infrastructure upgrades.

Project Status:

The agency selection for the corridor is pending. NHSRCL will oversee the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and handle execution.

The bullet train will offer world-class amenities and drastically cut down travel time, providing a modern, high-speed alternative to existing rail options. This marks a major leap in Bihar’s transportation and infrastructure development.
