Bihar education department aims to make healthy relationships between teachers and students:
The decision, issued with new guidelines for teachers, is intended to build a stronger, more respectful relationship between teachers and students.
Patna District Education Officer Sanjay Kumar explained that these changes seek to enhance children’s self-esteem and encourage open participation in the classroom.
“By addressing students by their names, the department hopes to create a more inclusive and respectful classroom environment, reducing any sense of intimidation or formality that might hinder engagement,” Kumar said.
“In many societies, surnames are often associated with caste, community, or social background, and this can sometimes create an unintended bias or even discomfort in social interactions. Recognizing this, we have implemented proactive steps to foster an inclusive and respectful environment for all students, where such associations are minimized. Our aim is to ensure that students feel valued for their individual identities, not defined by their surnames or backgrounds. This approach encourages unity, equality, and respect among students from an early age, contributing to a more positive atmosphere both in the classroom and beyond, laying the foundation for a more equitable society in the future,” Kumar said.
Additionally, teachers are encouraged to enter each class well-prepared, which is expected to improve the quality of instruction and create a more supportive learning atmosphere.
