New Delhi, February 20, 2026: Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday held a bilateral meeting with Brazilian counterparts to deepen cooperation between India and Brazil in agriculture and allied sectors.
The meeting took place at Krishi Bhawan on February 20, 2026, and was attended by Carlos Favaro, Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, and Luiz Paulo Teixeira Ferreira, Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed the status of ongoing cooperation and identified new areas for collaboration in agriculture and related sectors.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted the strong relationship between India and Brazil:
Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted the deep-rooted and friendly ties between the two nations, anchored in shared democratic values and strengthened through regular high-level engagements.
He referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Brazil during the BRICS Summit 2025, noting that it gave fresh momentum to bilateral relations.
The Union Minister also appreciated Brazil’s participation in the India AI Impact Summit, describing it as a positive step towards expanding technological collaboration between the two countries.
Brazilian Minister Luiz Paulo Teixeira Ferreira emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors, stating that there are numerous areas where mutual collaboration could yield significant benefits.

Minister Carlos Favaro praised India’s innovations in bio-inputs and noted that this area holds particular promise for future cooperation.
Both sides agreed to further deepen engagement and expand partnerships across priority areas in agriculture and allied sectors.
Chouhan also extended an invitation to the Brazilian delegation to participate in the forthcoming BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting.
Participation of leaders and officials:
The Brazilian delegation included senior officials such as Wilson Gambogi Pingeiro Taques, Chief of Cabinet; Roberto Carlos Papa, Agricultural Attache at the Embassy of Brazil; Luiz Renato de Alcantara Rua, Secretary, MAPA (Secretariat of Commerce and International Relations); and Mauricio Polidoro, International Advisor, among others.

The Indian side was represented by Dr. Magi Lal Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE); Dinesh Bhatia, Ambassador of India to Brazil; Additional Secretary Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare; and senior officials from DA&FW, the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
