Tejashwi Yadav strongly protested for inaction against 3 rebellious MLAs in the Bihar assembly.

Patna November 28, 2024: Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has strongly registered a protest over inaction on the matter of rebel MLAs, accusing the government and Assembly authorities of flouting established rules.
This has led to a huge uproar in the Bihar Assembly during the fourth day of the winter session, due to the contentious seating arrangements and unresolved issues surrounding rebel MLAs, which has brought significant political tension.
Tejashwi Yadav demanded action against RJD MLAs:
During the floor test of the Nitish Kumar government. Three MLAs of RJD Chetan Anand, Neelam Devi and Prahalad Yadav were involved in cross-voting and saved the NDA government in February this year.
According to Tejashwi Yadav, rebel MLAs of the RJD, despite being officially opposition members, were sitting with the ruling side, including ministerial seats. This allocation, he argues, goes against the assembly’s procedural rules.
Tejashwi pointed out that the matter had been formally raised with the Speaker in three previous sessions, with a demand to terminate the membership of these rebel MLAs. However, no action has been taken.
“Despite our written communication to the Speaker before the session, no action has been taken against the rebel MLAs who are violating party lines by sitting with or aligning with the ruling coalition. We demand for termination of their membership under anti-defection laws as a violation of legislative norms,” Yadav said.
Tejashwi Yadav frustrated over inaction:
Frustrated by the Speaker’s inaction, opposition MLAs, including those from the RJD, decide to stage a dramatic protest by sitting on the ruling side. This act aimed to highlight the perceived arbitrariness of seating arrangements and to protest the lack of adherence to procedural norms.
The protest escalated when RJD MLA Bhai Virendra approached the Chief Minister’s chair, intensifying tensions in the House.
“The government is disregarding rules and creating an environment of chaos. Why the Assembly’s rules were not being upheld despite repeated complaints over three consecutive sessions,” Yadav said.
Political Polarization:
The incident reflects deepening friction between the ruling coalition and the opposition in Bihar, with the RJD and Congress demanding fair treatment and adherence to legislative norms.
The episode underscores the role and accountability of the Speaker, who is being criticized for allegedly favouring the ruling coalition by not taking action against rebel MLAs.
By escalating the protest to the extent of physically occupying ruling party seats, the opposition has signalled a strategic intensification of its demands, aiming to draw public attention to perceived injustices.
This ongoing dispute highlights broader challenges of governance and procedural adherence in Bihar’s political landscape, with both sides using the Assembly as a battleground to assert their positions.
Tejashwi Yadav accused the government of acting “Above the rules,” suggesting a breakdown of accountability and fairness in legislative proceedings.
