Tejashwi Yadav accused central government of treating Bihar as step-motherly.

Patna November 14, 2024: Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, has voiced strong criticism against both the central government and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar regarding Bihar’s demands for special status and a development package.

Yadav accused the central government of treating Bihar “step-motherly,” despite the state’s significant contribution of MPs to the central government.

Tejashwi Yadav criticized centre and Nitish Kumar on special status of Bihar:

“Bihar has a longstanding demand for special status and financial support, which could help address its economic and infrastructural challenges. Nitish Kumar has not been pressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly on this issue despite several meetings. The Chief Minister should speak to PM Modi on this issue, but he has failed to do so,” Yadav said.

Highlighting Bihar’s recent caste-based survey, Yadav also took aim at the centre’s inaction on both the general and caste-based census, pointing out, “We demanded a caste-based census, but the central government has even failed to conduct a general census.”

Tejashwi Yadav claimed to form the government in Jharkhand:

Responding to BJP’s statements that the Congress, JMM, and RJD have “exploited” Jharkhand, Yadav counter-attacked them and alleged that corruption charges against NDA leaders, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and some Maharashtra leaders, are overlooked because their affiliations shield leaders from scrutiny, unlike those outside the NDA.

Yadav asserted confidence in his alliance’s prospects in Jharkhand, affirming that Hemant Soren will retain his position as the state’s Chief Minister.

Upendra Kushwaha responded to Tejashwi Yadav’s remarks:

In response to Tejashwi Yadav’s remarks, Rajya Sabha MP and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) president Upendra Kushwaha defended the central government’s approach toward Bihar.

Kushwaha argued that the recent Union Budget has provided substantial funding specifically for Bihar’s infrastructural development.

“Many leaders from other states have said the union budget’s focus on Bihar, with some remarking that this budget was not for the country but only for Bihar. This demonstrates that the central government is attentive to Bihar’s needs, making Yadav’s demands for a caste census and a special package irrelevant,” Kushwaha said.

Kushwaha further expressed confidence in the NDA’s political strength in Jharkhand, asserting that the alliance is well-positioned to form the government there.

He also highlighted the NDA’s preparations for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, signaling the alliance’s determination to secure a strong presence in both states.
