Rahul Gandhi to lead ‘Chakka Jam’ in Patna on July 9 against voter list revision.

Patna, July 8, 2025: Bihar’s capital is set to witness a major political stir as Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will lead the Grand Alliance’s Chakka Jam protest on July 9 against Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter list being conducted ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Patna tomorrow morning and will lead a march from Income Tax roundabout to the Election Commission office near the Bihar Assembly at 10 am.

This marks his seventh visit to Bihar in the last six months, underlining the Congress’ aggressive focus on the state ahead of the election.

Rahul Gandhi and the entire opposition term SIR as an attack on voting rights:

The Grand Alliance, including Congress, RJD and left parties, has termed the voter list revision process as biased and anti-poor.

Congress has alleged that the requirement for specific documents under the voter list revision may deprive migrants, dalits, Mahadalits and economically weaker sections of their voting rights.

This Chakka Jam is not just about Bihar but about protecting the soul of democracy. The people will register their protest on the streets of Patna tomorrow,” said Rajesh Kumar Ram, the state president of the Congress Bihar unit.

SIR started by the election commission on June 24:

The Election Commission began the special intensive revision of the voter list on June 24, making it mandatory for voters to fill out forms and submit one of 11 specific documents as identity proof.

During the Chakka Jam, traffic disruptions are expected on major routes and intersections in Patna, including Dak Bungalow Chowk, Gandhi Maidan, Ashok rapath, Bailey Road, Kankar Bagh and others.

The administration has directed all police stations to deploy additional forces and implement a revised traffic plan. Schools, Colleges and offices in the city may be affected.

While the Grand Alliance is framing the protest as a fight for people’s rights, the ruling NDA has termed it a political drama ahead of the elections.

A march to Raj Bhavan and submission of a memorandum to the Governor are also likely under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, with a large gathering of Congress, RJD and left parties workers expected to participate.
