Patna July 22: Araria police arrested four persons including three human traffickers from the district on Monday.
Amit Ranjan, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Araria district confirmed the incident. He said that a 7-year-old minor girl, who had been sold to human traffickers, was successfully recovered.
Araria police arrested four persons: The 7-year-old victim was sold by her mother Kuniya Khatoon (35), for Rs 50 thousand. Araria police have also arrested her. She is a resident of ward number 15 of Rehua village under the jurisdiction of Bounsi police station in the district.
This incident highlighted the grave issue of human trafficking and ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat it.

The incident came to light on Sunday night around 10 PM when Kuniya Khatoon informed the Raniganj police station that her 7-year-old daughter had gone missing from Raniganj Bazar. She went there for treatment at a clinic when a youth named Sonu approached her in the Raniganj Bazar. After that, her daughter went missing.
“As the matter was extremely serious, we immediately constituted a team headed by SDPO Araria (Sadar) for the rescue of the victim. The police team promptly initiated the investigation. The officials have probed its technical and scientific aspects and traced the location of Sonu and the minor girl from the Pratappur bus stand,” Ranjan said.
Investigation of Araria police: The police team immediately raided there and arrested three individuals: named Sajharul alias Sonu from Madhepura district, Shahmazhar, a native of Mumbai’s Hingauli locality and his wife Jahana Khatoon. The minor victim was also recovered from their possession.
Confessional statements of the accused: “During interrogation, the trio confessed that they have purchased the minor girl from her mother for Rs 50 thousand. The accused are always looking for poor families who could sell their minor girls. Sonu was active in the region and he established contact with Kuniya Khatoon to buy her daughter. As per the deal, Kuniya was paid Rs 50 thousand for her minor daughter,” the SP said.
Shahmazhar, in his confession statement, admitted that he and his wife always look for minor girls for prostitution in Mumbai,” Amit Ranjan said.
The top cop of the Araria police suspected that more human traffickers from the racket may be active in the region.
An FIR in this regard was registered under sections 93/98/99/111 (5), and 114 (4) of Bhartiya Nyay Sahita in Raniganj police station.
