Patna, September 4, 2025: A day after the crucial GST Council meeting in Delhi, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said that the government’s decisions will provide large-scale relief to the common people in the coming months.

Samrat Choudhary claimed that the most pressing issues with GST have now been resolved, especially those related to food, employment-like items, and essential sectors.

Choudhary said that GST has been abolished on all food items, while people will now pay only about 5% GST on most other essential goods.

Taxes on employment-related items and textiles have also been reduced, with GST in the textile sector cut from 12% to 5%.

This reduction will give relief from inflation. The poor, farmers and India’s economy have been taken care of,” he said.

Samrat Choudhary added that the government will also push for a Swadeshi campaign, ensuring prosperity for Bihar as well as the entire country.

He linked this move to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech, where he had promised economic relief to citizens.

Samrat Choudhary pointed out revenue impact:

Choudhary acknowledged that the cuts would result in a revenue loss of Rs 93,000 crore, but after adjustments, the effective loss to the government will be around Rs 40,000 crore.

“Even with this burden, the people of India will get relief. Farmers will benefit, the health sector will get concessions, and in a way, Indians are being given a booster dose to become self-reliant,” he said.

Political dig at Lalu Prasad Yadav:

Turning to the opposition, Choudhary targeted RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.

“Does he understand finance? If he is talking about finance, it is a matter of pride.”

Samrat Choudhary asserted that the NDA government is not only taking steps to strengthen the economy but also countering the misinformation being spread by the opposition.
