Patna, July 28, 2025: Ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a significant cultural milestone for the state—the inauguration of the Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Smriti Stupa in Vaishali on July 29, 2025.
The event is expected to draw Buddhist monks and dignitaries from 15 countries, marking a moment of international recognition and cultural pride for Bihar.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), CM Nitish Kumar stated: “It is a pleasure to inform that the Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Smriti Stupa, Vaishali, is going to be inaugurated on July 29, 2025. This will be a proud moment for all of us Biharis.”
Nitish Kumar has always an advocate of the spiritual and cultural significance in Bihar:
The grand stupa, built over 72 acres, has been constructed using pink sandstone from Rajasthan, blending aesthetic appeal with an environmental sustainability experience for visitors.
The main highlight of the stupa is the installation of the holy bone urn of Lord Buddha on its first floor—a sacred relic believed to have been discovered at the ancient mud stupa site in Vaishali.

Notably, Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang documented this in his chronicles, affirming Vaishali’s spiritual legacy.
“This stupa is not just a monument. It represents Bihar’s glorious past, its role in the evolution of democracy, and its contributions to the global Buddhist heritage,” Nitish Kumar said in his post.
A cultural milestone for Bihar:
The inauguration is being viewed as a strategic move ahead of the elections, but more importantly, it positions Bihar on the global Buddhist tourism map.
The complex is also a tribute to Vaishali’s historic identity—the world’s first republic, and the first place where women were formally inducted into the Buddhist Sangha.

Nitish Kumar emphasized the economic and cultural impact.
“This project will give a new direction to tourism, cultural identity, and employment generation in Bihar,” Nitish Kumar said.
Officials confirmed that tight security and logistical arrangements are being made to welcome the international visitors and manage the crowd expected for the historic event.
