Patna, July 10, 2025: The Baghmati River has swollen dangerously in Muzaffarpur’s Katra block following heavy rainfall in Nepal, creating flood-like conditions and triggering panic among residents.
The water level on the pontoon bridge over the Baghmati River has risen sharply, forcing authorities to stop the movement of heavy vehicles.
Villagers are on the edge due to the Baghmati River:
This may cut off connectivity between more than a dozen villages and the block headquarters at any moment local said.
Residents are crossing the bridge on bikes and small vehicles, risking their lives amid the rising water levels.
Many have reported panic in the villages due to the continuous water rise, with fears of a breach and inundation if the trend continues.
Administration issues an alert, and relief preparations begin:
In view of the seriousness of the situation, the district administration has issued an alert and intensified preparations to deal with a potential flood.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been put on standby, and continuous monitoring is being carried out in rural areas.
Authorities have appealed to residents to stay away from the Baghmati River banks and remain vigilant.
Preparations are underway to set up relief camps in case villages get cut off, which could happen within the next 24 hours if the water level continues to rise, officials said.
The situation could have a major impact on public life if water is released from upstream Nepal, and the administration has urged people to cooperate with rescue and relief protocols.
