Nitish Kumar’s unconventional gesture at JDU event wins hearts, rekindles debate on past protocol lapse.

Patna April 29, 2025: An unusual and heartfelt gesture by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar turned heads at the Janata Dal-United (JDU) office on Tuesday during the birth anniversary celebration of Danveer Bhamashah.

Invited as the chief guest, CM surprised many by reversing roles and acting as the host, in a rare and striking departure from formal protocol.

Nitish Kumar turned the protocol:

The event, held at the JDU headquarters in Patna, took a warm and spontaneous turn when Nitish Kumar declined the ceremonial honor prepared for him.

Instead, he personally began felicitating others. The Angvastra and turban brought to honor him were first given to JDU Legislative Councilor Lalan Sarraf who was initially meant to present them to the Chief Minister. Nitish Kumar took the items himself and, in an unexpected move, adorned Sarraf with them, much to the astonishment of those present.

He didn’t stop there. One by one, CM Nitish Kumar honored various ministers and party leaders on stage, including Water Resource Minister Vijay Chaudhary, Education Minister Sunil Kumar, State President Umesh Kushwaha and others.

His warm gestures lightened the atmosphere, drawing smiles and applause from the gathering.

The moment, captured on video, has since gone viral on social media, with many praising Nitish Kumar’s humility and personal touch.

This display of simplicity and unorthodox leadership style has once again underscored he’s persona as a people-oriented leader who often operates beyond the rigid boundaries of political formalities.

Nitish Kumar also faced criticism for his unorthodox activities:

However, this is not the first time CM deviation from expected protocol has made headlines though not always positively.

In a contrasting instance, he faced sharp criticism during the inauguration of the Sepak Takraw World Championship Sports Complex in Patna.

While the national anthem was being played, CM folded his hands in a traditional gesture of goodwill, which was perceived as a breach of etiquette.

The move, though likely intended as respectful, drew backlash from critics who considered it a mark of disrespect toward the national anthem.
