Patna, January 23, 2026: Saraswati Puja was celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion across the country, especially in Bihar, on Friday.
Devottees offered prayers to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, wisdom, and arts, marking the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami.
Idols of Goddess Saraswati were installed in schools, colleges, homes, temples, and public pandals across the state.
Since early morning, large crowds of devotees were seen at places of worship, with the chant of Jai Maa Saraswati echoing throughout cities and villages.
Saraswati Puja has special significance for students:
Saraswati Puja holds special importance in Bihar, particularly among students.
School and college students, dressed in new clothes, offered prayers with their books and pens, seeking blessings for knowledge and success.
In many areas, students stayed awake through the night to prepare for the Puja and performed rituals in the morning with proper chanting of mantras.
Grand Pandals were set up in several districts, including Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur and other districts, where beautifully decorated idols were installed and worshipped.

The capital city, Patna, witnessed a special festive atmosphere. Schools, colleges, and residential localities showcased attractive and artistic idols, with youth groups decorating pandals using colourful lights, flowers, and traditional items.
Culture program, bhajans and Saraswati Vandana were also organized at many locations, adding to the devotional spirit.
Social and cultural unity display:
Saraswati Puja has emerged not only as a religious occasion but also as a symbol of social and cultural unity.
People from different communities were seen working together in organizing puja arrangements and managing celebrations.
At home, women prepared special dishes such as kheer, halwa, boondi, and khichdi, along with fruits and flowers for offering.
Children, in particular, displayed great excitement and participation.
Eco-friendly idols and administrative vigilance:
A major attraction of the festival in Bihar was the artistic quality of the idols installed in Pandals.
Idols made of clay and plaster reflected serenity and the essence of knowledge.
This year, several artists also created eco-friendly idols, promoting environmental awareness and conservation.

Meanwhile, the administration made special arrangements to maintain security and order.
Police forces were deployed, traffic was regulated, and surveillance was intensified in areas to ensure peaceful celebrations.
Nitish Kumar extends Saraswati Puja and Basant Panchami greetings:
On the occasion of Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar extended heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the people of the state.

“People celebrate the arrival of spring, the king of seasons, with great enthusiasm and devotion, worshipping Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge. May you all celebrate the festival of Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja with mutual harmony. I wish that this festival brings happiness, peace, and prosperity to the state and that the light of knowledge spreads everywhere,” Kumar said.
