New Delhi, January 2, 2026: The AYUSH Ministry will organize the 9th Siddha Day on January 3, 2026, at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai, in collaboration with the National Institute of Siddha (NIS), the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), and the Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy, Government of Tamil Nadu.
The event will be held on the theme “Siddha for Global Health.”
Siddha Day is observed annually on January 6 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sage Agastya, revered as the father of the Siddha system of medicine.
The Siddha Day event will be inaugurated by the Vice President:
The Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, will inaugurate and preside over the 9th Siddha day celebrations.
The event will also be attended by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav; Tamil Nadu Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Ma. Subramanian, Secretary, Minister of AYUSH, and others.
The ceremony will bring together Siddha practitioners, scientists, academicians, scholars, and students from Tamil Nadu and other states.
Senior members of Siddha statutory bodies, researchers from NIS and CCRS, officials from the Ministry of AYUSH and the Government of Tamil Nadu, and a large number of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students from Government Siddha Medical Colleges in Chennai and Palayamkottai, as well as self-financing Siddha colleges in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, are expected to participate.
On this occasion, the Ministry of AYUSH will felicitate five eminent personalities for their outstanding contributions to the Siddha system of medicine.
The 9th Siddha Day celebrations will highlight the role of Siddha medicine in preventive healthcare, scientific research, and global well-being.
The event will create awareness about Siddha medicines:
The event aims to raise awareness about Siddha medicine and showcase the government’s continued efforts to strengthen its role in healthcare delivery, research collaborations, and academic development.
It also reflects the Ministry of AYUSH’s Commitment to promoting India’s traditional systems of medicine within national and global health frameworks, fostering innovation, and achieving wider international recognition for Siddha medicine.
