Patna July 9: Bihar is set to become the first state in India where three transgender individuals will soon serve in the police force.
This historic milestone was achieved following the announcement of the sub-inspector examination results by the Bihar Police Sub-Ordinate Service Commission (BPSSC) on Tuesday.
Among the successful candidates, three are transgender, marking a significant first in the country’s history.
One of these pioneering individuals is Manvi Madhu Kashyap, a transwoman from a small village in Bhagalpur.
Out of the 1275 posts of sub-inspector, Manvi’s inspiring journey and resilience have made her stand out. Her achievement symbolizes progress and the breaking of barriers for the transgender community in India.
“I used to wear a scarf to hide my identity out of fear of society. My mother used to come to Patna secretly to meet me, but now I will go to my village in uniform and tell everyone that I have no shame in being transgender,” Manvi said.
She recounted discovering her identity in class 9, which led to her becoming increasingly disconnected from society. She has two sisters, a brother, and a mother in her family.
“I haven’t visited her home for the last nine years. Now that I’ve passed the sub-inspector exam, after completing the training, I will go to my village in uniform and salute my mother,” Manvi said.
She dedicated herself to rigorous preparation, studying for over 8 hours daily for the past one and a half years and engaging in physical exercise for one and a half hours every morning at Gandhi Maidan.
Manvi excelled in the physical examination, completing the race in 4.34 minutes, well within the permissible limit of 6 minutes, earning applause from the officers present.
She attributed her success to Guru Rehman, a prominent educationist, and expressed her gratitude, saying she will remain a lifelong student of his Gurukul.
Guru Rehman, proud of this year’s results, stated, “This year’s result is making me even more proud because I used to make boys and girls sub-inspectors, but this time three transgenders have also become sub-inspectors from my institute. I provide free education to transgenders, and even today, 26 transgenders are studying in different batches here.”
Manvi’s journey and achievement symbolize a significant step forward for the transgender community in India, highlighting the importance of inclusion and equality.
