Tejashwi Yadav criticized Nitish Kumar over the controversial Waqf Law 2025.

Patna, April 9, 2025: Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday strongly criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his party over the controversial Waqf law, calling it “unconstitutional” and highlighting growing dissent within the ruling Janata Dal (United).

Tejashwi Yadav said Nitish Kumar is facing heat due to his own party leaders:

Reaching to Rural Works Minister Ashok Choudhary’s remark that “Nitish Kumar does not need any Maulana or Maulvi,” Tejashwi said: “What should be said about this? We had said earlier that whatever this Waqf law is, it is unconstitutional. We opposed it then and continue to oppose it now. Since the Waqf Bill was passed in Parliament even leaders from Nitish Kumar’s own party are opposing it.”

He added that while his party, the RJD, has maintained a clear stand on the issue, the JDU is facing “internal rebellion.”

Ashok Choudhary’s controversial comment.

Minister Ashok Choudhary, during an Eid Sammelan at the official residence of JDU leader Khalid Anwar on Tuesday, stirred controversy by stating: “Nitish Kumar does not need any Maulana or Maulvis. Despite being in alliance with the BJP for nearly 20 years, he has implemented several welfare schemes for the Muslim community. If he has done good work, Muslims will vote for him_ not because of Maulanas or Maulvis.”

Resignation Rock JDU:

Following the passage of the Waqf Bill in Parliament, the JDU has been facing a political backlash, particularly from its minority leaders.

Sources within the party reveal that over two dozen Muslim leaders have resigned since the bill became law, raising concerns for the JDU ahead of the upcoming elections.
