Patna, May 24, 2024: Outgoing Congress MP from Tiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor launched a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi government over national security, alleging that it has failed to act decisively against Chinese incursions along the border.
Shashi Tharoor claimed the BJP government:
‘’BJP contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election by making national security its central issue. But what happened after that? China reached our international border and destroyed a 45-year-old understanding between the two countries. They knew that the Modi government only talks and cannot take action,” Tharoor said.
Shashi Tharoor claimed that out of 65 patrolling points along the India-China border, the Chinese army had occupied 26, preventing Indian troops from accessing them. ‘When our soldiers tried to assert their rights at Galwan, 20 of them were martyred. The Modi government has done nothing since,” he added.
His remarks came in response to BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and others, who recently vowed to reclaim Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
A rally in Arrah on Friday:
During a rally in Arrah on Friday, Amit Shah had said:’’Lalu Prasad Yadav and Congress tell us not to talk about PoK because Pakistan has a nuclear bomb. I want to tell them that the BJP is not afraid of Pakistan. PoK is ours, and we will take it back. This is the BJP’s resolution.
Countering the BJP’s campaign plank, Shashi Tharoor said: “The national security narrative of the BJP has failed in this election. That is why they are now talking about the Ram Temple and Hinduism. But even that issue has not lost its impact after the Pram Pratisha of Ram Leela.”
Shashi Tharoor added that the Congress had shifted the electoral debate to people’s real concerns: ’’We are asking voters if their lives have improved in 10 years of Modi’s rule—whether they have jobs or better purchasing power. The answer is clear: nothing has changed. People are questioning why the BJP should get a third chance.
