Patna, September 21, 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said on Monday that the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections in the state would be held only after the process of delimitation of gram panchayats is completed.
Addressing the ‘Gram Sansad’ program at a hotel in Patna, Choudhary said the State Election Commission was currently working on the delimitation exercise and that the Panchayat elections would be conducted after the process was completed.
Samrat Choudhary urged public representatives about local GDP growth:
Choudhary also announced a new initiative under which public representatives would be asked to provide details of the growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) within their respective areas during their five-year terms.
He said the government would seek information on GDP growth at the district, block and Gram Panchayat levels, with the objective of assessing development during the tenure of elected representatives.
Samrat Choudhary also announced that poor families who have been residing on government land in villages for 20 to 40 years would be provided formal settlement rights.
He said the government would issue land entitlement documents, or parchas, to eligible residents and that instructions had been issued to the Revenue and Land Reforms Department in this regard.
Samrat Choudhary said the government aimed to establish at least 50 private universities in Bihar as part of its efforts to expand higher education opportunities in the state.
He also said the government was working towards creating sufficient employment opportunities within Bihar so that, after 2030, people would no longer need to work in manual labour.
Panchayat delimitation work is in the final stage.
A few days earlier, Bihar Panchayati Raj Minister Deepak Prakash had also said that the schedule for the three-tier Panchayat elections would be announced after completion of the delimitation exercise.
He had indicated that the election dates could be announced soon and said the delimitation process was in its final stage.
Prakash also said Panchayat Sarkar Bhavans across Bihar were being developed as mini-secretariats.
The objective is to make various government services available to villagers under one roof at the Panchayat level.
Officials from relevant departments will also be stationed at these centres alongside elected public representatives to facilitate access to government services.
