RCP Singh launched a new party with 140 founding members, and brought a good alternative for voters.

Former Union Minister of Steel, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh also known as RCP Singh, has launched a new political party called Aap Sab Ki Aawaj (ASA) in Patna on Thursday. RCP Singh claimed the idea is to present a fresh alternative for the people of Bihar.
RCP Singh launched the party on Diwali:
At the launch event on Diwali, which also coincides with National Unity Day and the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Singh highlighted the symbolism of the party’s name, Asa meaning “hope.” It reflects the party’s aspiration to bring renewed optimism to Bihar’s political landscape.
“ASA is starting with 140 founding members and they are preparing to contest the 2025 Bihar assembly elections,” Singh said.
RCP Singh described the party’s flag:
During the launch of the party, Singh also described the design of the flag: “The flag is divided into three horizontal bands—green on top, yellow in the middle, and sky blue at the bottom. A black circle is placed in the middle of the yellow band, where the party’s symbol will eventually be added once it is allocated by the Election Commission.”
The launch comes ahead of the 2025 Bihar assembly elections, signalling RCP Singh’s intent to make a significant impact on the state’s political landscape.
RCP Singh worked in JD(U) and BJP apart from a top bureaucrat:
RCP Singh, originally a seasoned IAS officer, transitioned into politics in 2010, quickly rising to become a prominent leader in JD(U), second only to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
His political standing within the party began to shift in 2021 when he became the Union Steel Minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet. During his tenure, some of Singh’s decisions reportedly clashed with Nitish Kumar’s expectations.
At that time, Singh, as JD(U) national president, was tasked with negotiating ministerial positions with BJP, but his stance did not align with Kumar’s preferences. This led to pressure from Nitish Kumar, resulting in Singh’s resignation from the post of national president of the party.
Nitish Kumar later chose not to renew RCP Singh’s Rajya Sabha membership, which led to his resignation from the steel minister in July 2022.
Following this, RCP Singh joined the BJP but did not find a prominent role, especially after Nitish Kumar re-joined the NDA in January 2024.
