JD (U) and LJPRV may get four and two cabinet berths in the new Modi government.
Patna, June 7: With the importance of Nitish Kumar and Chirag Paswan enhanced in the Narendra Modi third term, they could get four and two cabinet berths in the new government. At the same time, BJP may remove some of the faces of the previous government.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is known as a hard bargainer and he may look into key posts including railway and road transport and highway ministries.
In Bihar, JD (U) contested 16 seats, while the BJP fielded candidates on 17 seats but both the parties have won 12 seats each. In this respect, JD (U) has performed better than BJP.
The MPs of JD (U) assembled in the residence of CM Nitish Kumar in New Delhi on Thursday, and the party’s parliamentary board meeting is scheduled at 11.30 a.m. on Friday, the participation of JD (U) in the third Narendra Modi government will be one of the agendas which they would discuss.
Sources have said that JD (U) is demanding four cabinet portfolios with three cabinet ministers and one state minister. JD (U) has its eyes on the railway ministry, road transport and highway, and water resources ministries. Nitish Kumar was the Union Railway minister during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and he wants to get it again to execute some of his pending projects. it is believed that Lalan Singh and Sanjay Jha will become ministers in the new cabinet.
Leaders from backward or extremely backward communities can also get a place. Sunil Kumar Kushwaha, who comes from the Kushwaha caste, can also be made a minister. Lok Janshakti Party Ram Vilas (LJPRV) is also claiming two cabinet berths. Chirag Paswan is considered certain to get a place in the cabinet. Apart from that, the demand for a minister of state has also been placed by the party. Chirag Paswan’s party has a total of 5 MPs.
Chirag Paswan, however, said that he has no demand for cabinet posts. He said that he just wants to make Narendra Modi Prime Minister for the third time.
Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAMS), led by former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, has won the Gaya Lok Sabha seat. He also wants to become a minister.
In this way, claims for six ministerial posts are coming up in the alliance parties of the NDA. In such a situation, the BJP will have to reduce the number of ministers from its quota. This time, it is less likely that all the people who were given a place in the previous government will be given a place in the cabinet.
RK Singh lost the election from the Arrah Lok Sabha seat, while former Union Minister Ashwini Choubey did not get a ticket from the Buxar Lok Sabha seat. At the same time, Giriraj Singh and Nityanand Rai have somehow been able to save their reputation and win the Begusarai and Ujiarpur seats.
So there were four ministers in Narendra Modi’s cabinet last time. Now, two of them are out of race, and there is very little chance for Nityanand Rai and Giriraj Singh to become ministers in the new government.
The BJP can make a maximum of two ministers because six ministerial posts seem to be going to the allies. In that case, the party can try to appease the backward sections by including Muzaffarpur MP Raj Bhushan Nishad, former state president and Paschim Champaran MP Sanjay Jaiswal in the cabinet. Radha Mohan Singh is another MP from Purvi Champaran who is in the race.
