Patna, July 16, 2025: Continuous Heavy rains over the past 48-72 hours have badly affected life across several districts in Bihar, with Gaya, Banka, and Munger witnessing a severe situation.
Rising water levels in rivers, damaged roads, and the risk of flooding have put the local administration on high alert.
Diversions washed away in Munger due to heavy rain:
In the Haveli Khargarpur block of Munger, Heavy rains have caused almost all small and large rivers to swell.
The Mahkola Budhiya River near Mahkola Basa has washed away a diversion on the Haveli Khargarpur-Tarapur main road, completely disrupting traffic.
Similarly, the Dangri River near Kachhi Mor has submerged a temporary diversion, forcing people to risk their lives while crossing.

Several diversions across the Haveli Khagarpur-Tarapur road have either broken or been damaged, and fast-flowing water is creating commuting challenges for residents. Experts warn that continued rainfall could damage more diversions, deepening the crisis.
In the Vasudevpur area of Munger, a road has completely collapsed due to continuous rains, becoming life-threatening for locals.
The collapse is linked to incomplete restoration after sewerage and drinking water pipeline works, exposing administrative lapses.
Rivers cross the danger mark in Gaya:
In the Gaya district, the water levels of the Falgu and Niranjana rivers have risen above danger levels, raising flood concerns in low-lying areas.
By 9 am on Wednesday, the Falgu River’s water level had reached 112.86 meters, crossing the high flood mark of 112.36 meters.

“We are in alert mode, closely monitoring water levels, strengthening riverbanks, and keeping sandbags ready to prevent erosion,” said Pawan Kumar, Executive Engineer, Water Resources Department, Gaya.
District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar has directed officials to remain vigilant in riverbank areas, with the IMD issuing an alert for continued Heavy rains in the region.
Orange alert issued following heavy rains:
The Patna Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert, warning of moderate to heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and strong winds (50-60 Km/h) across many districts in the next two days.
The IMD attributes the intensified heavy rains to cyclonic circulation over West Bengal and Jharkhand, changing Bihar’s weather pattern.
The rising water levels in Ganga, Falgu, Niranjana, and tributaries like Son, Gandak, and Kosi have raised flood fears in Patna, Buxar, Bhagalpur, and Gaya, with water entering low-lying areas in many places.
The Water Resources Department has instructed district administrations to prepare relief materials, boats, and community kitchens, readying for emergency responses if the situation worsens.
