Patna, June 18, 2024:  The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) will interrogate nine suspected NEET candidates on Tuesday in connection with the alleged question paper leak. The questioning will take place over two days at the EOU headquarters in Patna, in the presence of the candidates’ parents.

EOU will interrogate nine NEET candidates:

The Bihar Police has already formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. Earlier, notice was issued to 11 candidates to join the investigation; two of them will appear later. The NEET exam was held on May 5, but according to investigators, the paper was obtained by examination racketeers a day earlier. Patna Police had arrested 13 persons—including six alleged exam mafias, four students and three parents—after the racket was busted.

Investigators say the leaked paper and answer key were taken to “Learn Play School” under Ramakrishna Nagar police station limits, where 25-30 candidates were assembled and made to memorize questions till 9 am on May 5. Police recovered partially burnt Xerox copies of three booklets from the premises. Economic Offences Unit later matched 74 questions from those booklets with the actual NEET paper—a 100% match.

Economic Offences Unit has sought the original NEET question paper from the NTA, but it has not been received yet. Officers say this delay is affecting the investigation.

The SIT is also examining how the roll numbers and roll codes of 11 candidates reached the racketeers. EOU is preparing to seek remand of four arrested students to determine possible links with the 11 suspects.

EOU will visit New Delhi to meet NTA officials:

EOU officials will also visit New Delhi to meet NTA officials. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has admitted “irregularities at some places” and promised strict action if NTA officials are found guilty.
