Patna, December 29, 2025: The cold wave and dense fog continue to intensify across Bihar, severely affecting normal life.
According to the latest report from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bihar, Gaya district recorded the lowest temperature in the state over the last 24 hours, with the mercury dipping to 5.2 degrees Celsius, well below normal.
The Meteorological Department has warned that dense to very dense fog is likely to prevail in several districts over the next 48 to 72 hours, particularly during the early morning and late night hours.
Visibility in many areas is expected to drop below 50 meters, posing serious challenges for road, rail and air traffic.
Cold wave and dense fog alert in multiple districts:
According to the IMD, districts likely to be affected by dense fog include Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Vaishali, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, and Darbhanga.

North Bihar and Seemanchal districts are expected to remain particularly vulnerable to poor visibility conditions.
Meteorologists attribute the worsening fog and cold wave conditions to the slowing of westerly winds and increased atmospheric humidity.
Daily life is disrupted due to the cold wave:
The cold wave has intensified further in Gaya, where icy winds and dense fog in the morning hours are forcing people to stay indoors.
Residents are relying heavily on bonfires to protect themselves from the cold, while demand for woollen clothes has surged in local markets.

Local residents say that this winter feels harsher the usual, especially during early morning and evening hours.
The severe cold wave is having a noticeable impact on the health of elderly people and children, doctors say.
Dense fog has disrupted transportation services, with trains and buses running late during morning hours.
The risk of road accidents has increased, prompting the administration to advise motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and drive cautiously with fog lights on.
Daily wage workers and labourers working in open areas are among the worst affected, as prolonged exposure to cold weather and fog made working conditions extremely difficult.
School-going children are also facing difficulties due to the harsh weather conditions.
The Meteorological Department has clarified that there is little chance of relief from the cold wave in the coming days.
People have been urged to remain alert, follow safety guidelines, and monitor official weather updates closely.
