Bihar Bandh: Shivanand Tiwari urges Rahul, Tejashwi to stage a Dharna if stopped during the protest.

Patna, July 9, 2025: Amid the Bihar Bandh against the Special Intensive Voter List Revision (SIR), RJD national vice president Shivanand Tiwari has given a direct suggestion to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as they lead the protest march in Patna.
“I have a humble suggestion for both of them. If both of you reach the gate of the Election Commission, then sit on a dharna there. It is possible that the police may not let you reach there. In such a situation, wherever the police stop you, sit on a dharna there. If the police detain you, then do not take bail. If this happens, the atmosphere of the country will change,” Tiwari said.
On Bihar Bandh, Congress leader says ‘This is a fight to protect democracy’:
Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram said that Rahul Gandhi has always fought on the streets during crises and that the current voter list revision drive is a direct threat to democracy.

“Today, there is a crisis in democracy—the conspiracy of the vote ban is in front. We are strongly opposing this, and Rahul Gandhi himself has come to stand with us in this fight. This is not just a movement; it is a resolution to protect the constitutional rights of the people,” Rajesh Ram said.
Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav led the Bihar Bandh:
During the Bihar Bandh, leaders of Mahagathbandhan, including Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, are leading a march from the Income Tax roundabout to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office to gherao the office and submit their demands.

The opposition demands that the voter list revision process be conducted after the Bihar Assembly elections to prevent its alleged misuse for political purposes.
Concern over required documents:
The Grand Alliance argues that the requirement of 11 specific documents for voter verification could lead to the exclusion of crores of poor and marginalized voters, calling it a direct violation of democratic rights.
The Election Commission, however, has continued with the special revision process ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled in three months, while the ruling NDA has termed the opposition’s protest as politically motivated.
