Patna August 30: Alok Raj, the 1989 batch IPS officer was given the additional charge of the Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar on Friday.
He is currently serving as the Director General of the Vigilance Bureau in Bihar. With this new appointment, he will continue in his role with the vigilance bureau while also taking on the responsibilities of the state DGP.
The Home Department of the Bihar government has issued a notification confirming that Alok Raj will continue in his role as the DG of the Vigilance Bureau while also serving as the DGP of Bihar, headquartered in Patna until a permanent appointment is made.
The appointment of Alok Raj as a DGP of Bihar was confirmed after he was called to meet with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in his residence on Friday afternoon. After the meeting, the Home Department released the official notification assessing the additional charge of DGP.
He will replace Rajvinder Singh Bhatti who was recently appointed as Director General of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
There was speculation about several candidates for the DGP position including 1991 batch IPS officer Vinay Kumar and 1990 batch IPS officer Sobha Ahotkar, but with this announcement, all speculations have been put to rest.
