Patna, September 7, 2025: In a significant milestone for Bihar’s urban transit journey, the Patna Metro project conducted its first fitness trial run on Sunday.

The trial was carried out between Patna Depot and Boothnath Metro Station, marking a crucial step toward operational readiness of the ambitious project.

Patna Metro Officials tested three key parameters:

During the trial, authorities evaluated multiple systems, including rolling stock fitness, performance and safety of the metro train, verification of the electric supply system of overhead electrification and checking the alignment, stability, and overall safety of the track.

The Patna Metro cleared all three parameters, paving the way for system integration tests and dynamic trials before commercial launch.

Patna metro priority corridor:

The project is currently focusing on the six KM priority corridor stretching from Patliputra Bus Depot ISBT Metro station to Malahi Pakadi, covering Bhoothnath Road, Khemni Chak and Zero Mile.

The Patna Metro comprises three coaches, having a capacity of 300 passengers.

The interiors and exteriors showcase Madhubani art and images of Bihar’s historic landmarks, including Golghar, Buddha Stupa, Nalanda Ruins, and Mahabodhi Temple.

Officials described the milestone as a proud moment for the state, highlighting that Metro will offer modern, safe, and efficient noise and pollution-free public transport to the city’s citizens.

The project, a flagship initiative of the Nitish Kumar government, aims to transform Patna’s urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion once operational.

With the Metro project inching closer to operational, Patna District Magistrate Tyagarajan S M conducted an extensive inspection of the Patna Metro Priority Corridor, accompanied by Abhilasha Sharma, Additional Managing Director of Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited cum joint secretary of Urban Development and Housing Department of the Bihar government, on Saturday.

They reviewed the parking facilities and passenger amenities of the Zero Mile Metro Station, assessed encroachment issues and approached road challenges at ISBT Metro Station, crowd management strategies and smooth passenger flow of Bhoothnath Metro Station.

“Resolving these challenges will be crucial for delivering a seamless urban transport system,” said Patna DM Tyagarajan S M, during the review.
