Ashwini Vaishnav will launch a Rs 79 crore project in the rail engine factory Jamalpur.

Patna, May 23, 2025: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav commenced his two-day visit to Bihar on Friday, with a key focus on inspecting and modernizing the Jamalpur Rail Engine factory.
He departed from Patna Junction via an inspection car, accompanied by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha and along with other senior officials of the railway.
Ashwini Vaishnav’s strategic visit ahead of state elections:
The visit is considered politically and developmentally significant, coming just months ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections.
The Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav is expected to announce several infrastructural projects aimed at boosting connectivity and economic activity across the state.
A key highlight of the visit is the foundation stone laying of a Wagon Periodic Overhauling (POH) facility at the Jamalpur factory.
The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 79 crore, will enable the repair of 545 to 800 wagons per month, enhancing the efficiency of freight services and increasing employment opportunities in the region.

In addition, the Jamalpur facility is likely to be assigned the responsibility for the maintenance of LHB coaches and Vande Bharat trains which would mark a significant upgrade in its operations and role within Indian railways.
Inspection, interaction and future plans:
Ashwini Vaishnav will inspect various sections of the factory, interact with employees and review ongoing modernization efforts.
The visit is also expected to feature announcements on the introduction of new trains, redevelopment of railway stations under Amrit Bharat Yojana, and acceleration of pending infrastructure projects.
The central government has recently allocated a record Rs 70,672 crore for strengthening Bihar’s railway infrastructure.
This budget will support the development of new railway lines, gauge conversion projects, electrification and doubling of tracks, redevelopment of stations and creation of job opportunities across the state.
These investments aim to transform Bihar’s connectivity, boost trade and mobility and foster economic development in urban and rural areas alike.
