Patna May 17: While the leaders are doing rallies and roadshows in the general election in the country, an independent candidate of Bihar’s Gopalganj Lok Sabha constituency is doing the donkey show to lure voters.
Meet Satyendra Baitha, an independent candidate of Bihar’s Gopalganj Lok Sabha constituency (SC Reserved). Due to his unique style of campaign method, people are stepping out of their houses to see him.
When asked about his unique style of the election campaign, Satyendra Baitha said: “As the price of petrol and diesel are high in the country and it is not affordable for many persons like me, I have decided to campaign by riding on the donkey to go at every doorstep to appeal the voters for the voting in my favour. I took a donkey ride to the collectorate office to file the nomination as well.”
Satyendra Baitha belongs to a washerman caste (Dhobi) and the donkey is its pet animal. He is a native of Shyampur village under Kuchaikot block in the district.
“When I filed the nomination, I promised in my affidavit to campaign in the Lok Sabha election on donkey,” Baitha said.
When asked about his priority after winning the election, Satyendra Baitha said: “I want to reopen a sugar mill in the district and also want to open a university. Sanitation of Gopalganj is also my priority. Many candidates have won the election in the past. After winning the election, they were hardly seen in the district for five years. They used to stay in Delhi or Patna. I am a local resident of Gopalganj and available round the clock for the public.”
The main contest in the Gopalganj Lok Sabha seat will take place between NDA candidate Alok Kumar Suman and INDI alliance candidate Chanchal Kumar Paswan. The voting here will be scheduled in the sixth phase on May 25.
