9.84% polling registered in Bihar till 9 am.

Patna, April 26, 2024: Despite the scorching heat, voters in Bihar are turning out in encouraging numbers for polling in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

According to the Election Commission, the state recorded an overall 9.84% voter turnout by 9 AM on Friday across the five constituencies where voting is underway.

Seat-wise polling and key contests so far:

In Katihar, the highest early turnout was at 12.01%. The main fight is between Dulal Chandra Goswami (JD-U) and Tariq Anwar (Congress).

In Banka, 10.65% of polling was recorded. A direct contest is underway between Giridhari Yadav (JD-U) and Jay Prakash Narayan Yadav (RJD).

In Purnea, 9.36% turnout till 9 AM. A triangular battle is unfolding among Santosh Kushwaha (JD-U), Bima Bharti (RJD) and Pappu Yadav (Independent).

In Bhagalpur: 8.92% voting so far. The Key contest is between Ajeet Sharma (Congress) and Ajay Kumar Mandal (JD-U).

In Kishanganj, 8.32% turnout till 9 AM. Another triangular fight featuring Mohammad Jawaid (Congress), Mozahid Alam (JD-U) and Akhtarul Iman (AIMIM).

Polling began at 7 AM:

Voting began early in the morning and is expected to pick up as the day progresses.

Election officials have appealed to voters to exercise their franchise in greater numbers despite the rising temperatures.
