New Delhi, April 10, 2026: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to organize a week-long ‘Heritage Week’ from April 13 to 18, 2026, aimed at connecting citizens, especially the youth, with the rich cultural and historical legacy of Delhi.

The initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which will showcase an exhibition highlighting conservation efforts undertaken in the Mehrauli area.

The focus of DDA on awareness, participation, and preservation:

Through this initiative, DDA seeks to deepen public awareness and pride in Delhi’s heritage, encourage community participation and youth engagement, showcase ongoing conservation and urban ecology efforts, and foster a sense of ownership among citizens.

The broader objective is to inspire people across all age groups to actively participate in preserving the cultural and historical identity of the National capital.

Vice chairman of DDA, N Saravana Kumar, emphasized the importance of integrating heritage into the city’s future.

“He stated, “Delhi’s is a living legacy that must remain central to the city’s future. Through Heritage Week, we aim to strengthen public connection, especially among the youth, with these invaluable historical spaces.”

He further added that the DDA is focused on ensuring that heritage, conservation, ecological restoration, and public place-making progress together as part of a balanced and suitable urban development strategy.

Range of activities planned:

The week-long program will feature a variety of engaging activities, including student engagement initiatives, photography competitions, student dialogue contests, sketching and drawing competitions, story-writing activities, exhibitions and cultural night programs.

Heritage walks attract enthusiastic participation:

As part of pre-event celebrations, DDA, along with the School of Heritage Research and Management at Dr B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi, has been organizing heritage walks.

These walks, themed Sufis, Sultans and Settlers, listening to the tales they whisper, were held on April 3,4, and 5, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students’ families and heritage enthusiasts.

Another heritage walk is scheduled at Sanjay Van on April 11.

The initiative underscores DDA’s commitment to ensure that as Delhi evolves into a modern, sustainable, and inclusive capital, its historical legacy and ecological assets are preserved.

By promoting awareness and participation, the DDA’s Heritage Week aims to ensure that urban development progresses in harmony with cultural preservation stewardship.
