New Delhi, March 30, 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) marked a significant milestone on Monday, with the inauguration of the Binny Bansal Exhibition Hall on its campus.

The ceremony was attended by Binny Bansal, co-founder of Flipkart and a distinguished alumnus of IIT Delhi, along with the Institute’s Director Rangan Banerjee, faculty members, staff, and a large gathering of students.

A tribute to philanthropy and legacy at IIT Delhi:

The exhibition hall was named in recognition of Binny Bansal’s sustained philanthropic contributions and long-standing association with his alma mater.

IIT Delhi has announced the naming in December 2025, acknowledging its role in strengthening the institute’s academic and innovation ecosystem.

Speaking at the event, Bansal reflected on his journey and connection with the institute:

“IIT Delhi is where it all began for me. I hope this exhibition hall becomes a space where students dare to build images of the future, showcase their ideas, and realize that the next great company or invention can begin right here on this campus.”

From examination hall to innovation hub:

Located on the ground floor of the Main Administrative Building, the hall holds deep nostalgia for alumni, as it was once used as an examination venue. It has now been transformed into a modern, dynamic space for student engagement, study, and institutional exhibitions.

The inauguration ceremony, attended by Bansal’s family and close associates, was described as warm and memorable, celebrating both tradition and transformation.

Director Rangan Banerjee praised Bansal’s contributions and highlighted the symbolic importance of the space.

“ Binny Bansal’s unwavering generosity and commitment to IIT Delhi are worthy of emulation. This hall, named in his honour, will inspire a generation of students for decades to come.”

Inspiring the next generation:

Earlier in the day, Bansal also participated in an interactive fireside chat with students, where he shared insights from his entrepreneurial journey and the early days of building Flipkart. He also spoke about lessons learned and his vision for India’s technology ecosystem.

The session saw enthusiastic participation, with students engaging directly and drawing inspiration from one of India’s leading startup pioneers.
