Patna, March 20, 2024: The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) on Wednesday announced the cancellation of the third phase of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-3) after a large-scale question paper leak was uncovered.
According to an official statement, the TRE-3 exams for Classes 1-5 and 6-8, conducted on March 15 in two shifts, were compromised after the question papers were obtained a day prior by an organized gang involved in the education mafia and sold to several candidates. The BPSC stated that new examination dates will be announced soon.
BPSC Investigation reveals Kolkata connection:
The investigation revealed that the papers were leaked from a printing press in Kolkata, with Vishal Kumar Chaurasia of Vaishali district identified as the kingpin. Chaurasia is currently absconding, and an FIR was registered at the EOU police station in Patna on March 16.
Jharkhand police busts operation:
The TRE-3 leak was initially uncovered by Jharkhand police on March 14, when they found a large number of candidates gathered in a house in Hazaribagh. The suspects were arrested, and he case was transferred to Bihar’s Economic Offence Unit (EOU).
Massive arrests:
So far, 277 individuals have been arrested in connection with the leak, including candidates and alleged facilitators. Authorities are continuing the investigation to identify all involved.
The cancellation is expected to delay the recruitment of teachers in Bihar, a process closely watched by thousands of aspiring candidates. The BPSC has assured that the exams will be rescheduled promptly to maintain transparency.
