Patna, June 17, 2025: In a historic crackdown on ticketless travel, the Sonpur Division of East Central Railway (ECR) conducted a mega ticket-checking drive on June 16, 2025, achieving the highest-ever single-day penalty collection in ECR history.

During the intensive operation, a total of 7607 ticketless passengers were apprehended, resulting in a revenue realization of Rs 56,52,750 through penalties.

The drive saw a massive deployment of commercial officers, ticket-checking staff, and support personnel across major trains and stations under the Sonpur Division.

Unprecedented coordination between officials of Sonpur Division:

This large-scale enforcement exercise reflects the efficiency, coordination and vigilance of the division’s underlining the railway’s unwavering commitment to ensuring passenger accountability and rule compliance.

The initiative aligns with Indian Railway’s broader goals of enhancing travel discipline, improving passenger services and boosting non-fare revenue.

Leadership recognition:

The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Sonpur Division congratulated the entire team for the landmark achievement, urging continued vigilance and proactive engagement with travellers to deter ticketless travel.

“This achievement is a testament to the dedication and strategic execution of our commercial staff. Sustained efforts like this are essential to strengthen railway operations and foster a culture of responsible travel,” the DRM said.

Railway officials have reiterated that similar drives will be conducted in the future to maintain strict surveillance and ensure that all passengers travel with valid tickets.
