Patna, May 3, 2024: After Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s announcement to contest the Lok Sabha election from Raebareli, BJP leaders have launched a series of sharp attacks, claiming he will lose wherever he contests. The Congress, meanwhile, has fielded Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi—a seat long considered a bastion of the Gandhi family.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said Rahul Gandhi’s decision reflected his fear of defeat.

Rahul Gandhi will lose the election wherever he contests, said NDA leaders:

“The Congress leader does not have the confidence to win from Wayanad and hence shifted to Raebareli. He has been completely rejected by the people of the country and will lose wherever he contests,” Sinha said.

Another Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, echoed the sentiment, saying Rahul Gandhi was “scared of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

“He is running away from Amethi, a traditional Gandhi family seat. Out of fear, we see him visiting temples now. He will lose from everywhere,” Choudhary added.

LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan questioned the timing of the Congress decision.

“The party finalized Rahul Gandhi’s name just hours before nominations closed. That shows internal contradictions within Congress. After losing Amethi, he didn’t even visit the constituency for years,” Paswan said.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh, contesting from Begusarai, also took a swipe at the Congress.

“Once the Gandhi family loses a seat, they never return to contest from there. Just as Amethi was lost, Raebareli will be lost too. They have already accepted defeat—no one from Congress even wanted to contest Amethi,” Singh remarked.

The RJD defended Rahul Gandhi and the Congress:

In contrast, RJD spokesperson Mritunjay Tiwari defended the Congress leader, saying the BJP’s criticism stemmed from fear of the INDIA bloc’s growing strength.

“The BJP always mocked Rahul Gandhi for contesting from Wayanand. Now that he is contesting from Raebareli. They are rattled. This decision will strengthen the INDIA bloc across Uttar Pradesh’s 80 seats,” Tiwari said.

Rahul Gandhi’s switch from Waynand to Raebareli marks a strategic shift for the Congress, with both the BJP and opposition parties gearing up for a high-stakes electoral battle in Uttar Pradesh.
