Patna, June 25, 2024: As the CBI formally begins its probe into the NEET question paper leak case, 13 arrested accused applied for regular bail, and the alleged mastermind, Sanjeev Mukhiya, filed an anticipatory bail petition in Patna civil court on Tuesday.

NEET accused have been asked to go CBI court:

Public prosecutor Uday Shankar Singh, who is representing Mukhiya, moved the anticipatory bail application before the court of Additional District Judge (ADJ)-5 Rajendra Kumar Sinha.

However, the ADJ noted that the case has now been transferred to the CBI. The Judge directed the public prosecutor to submit the case transfer order before the CBI’s special court, which will now hear all bail-related matters.

“The regular bail pleas of the 13 accused and the anticipatory bail of Sanjeev Mukhiya will now be heard in the special CBI court on July 15. We will submit the transfer order in the CBI court today,” Singh said.

The NEET paper leak happened on May 5:

The NEET exam was held on May 5. Patna Police cracked the leak on the same day and arrested 13 persons—including six alleged exam mafias, four candidates and three parents—and registered FIR No. 358/24 at Shastri Nagar police station.

On May 15, the case was transferred to Bihar EOU, which subsequently arrested six more accused from Deoghar, Jharkhand.

After a recommendation from the Union Education Ministry, the case was handed over to the CBI on Sunday.

Mukhiya’s name first surfaced in the original Patna Police FIR, but he obtained a “no-arrest/ no-concurrence” protection order in that particular case number. However, during the EOU probe, his name reportedly recurred, after which he was added again as an accused.

Mukhiya—alleged to be the mastermind—remains absconding.

Accused arrested so far by Patna Police and the EOU include—Sikandar Yadavendu, Anurag Yadav, Ayush Raj, Baldev Kumar alias Chintu, Amit Anand, Nitish Kumar, Awadesh Kumar and others.
