Patna metro to get largest underground station near zoo; first phase inauguration on August 15.

Patna, June 16, 2025: The Bihar capital is all set to mark a milestone in its urban transportation development with the Patna Metro Rail Project.

As part of the rapid transit system, the city’s longest underground metro station is being constructed near the Patna Zoo, with the inauguration of the first phase scheduled for August 15.

According to a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official, the upcoming underground station will be a major engineering feat 17 meters below ground and 355 meters long, making it the largest underground station of the Patna Metro network.

The extended length is primarily due to the crossover track being laid here, which will allow metro trains to switch lines in case of disruptions.

Patna Metro Zoo Station’s features and design:

The station is being built with a two-story design. The first level will host ticket counters, escalators, lifts, and other commuter facilities and the second level will have platforms to board metro trains on both up and down lines.

It is being designed to handle a daily football of approximately 1.41 lakh passengers.

To manage this, 6 escalators and 3 lifts are being installed.

There will be two entry points one near Gate No. 1 of Patna Zoo (Nehru Path) and the other on the opposite side of the road. An internal underpass will connect both platforms, making movement across the station smoother for passengers.

Crossover track: a strategic addition:

The crossover track is a significant feature of this station. It provides operational flexibility enabling trains to shift between lines in case of a service issue, ensuring minimal disruption.

The broader road width in this area allowed engineers to accommodate this crucial infrastructure component.

Metro on track for August launch:

With construction progressing rapidly, authorities are optimistic about meeting the August 15 deadline for the inauguration of the metro’s first phase.

The station near the zoo is expected to become a central hub for commuters, easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity in the city.
