Patna Metro priority corridor will be expected to be open by August 15 next year to boost city infrastructure.

Patna December 11, 2024: The urban development ministry of the Bihar government held a high-level meeting under the chairmanship of Abhay Kumar Singh, Managing Director of Patna Metro and Secretary of Urban Development and Housing, to review the ongoing project and asked the officials to expedite the construction on Wednesday.

Singh emphasized completing the priority corridor of the Patna metro by August 15, 2025, aiming to open it to the public by this date.

Patna Metro Priority Corridor Focus:

Singh reviewed the 6 km priority corridor that runs from ISBT to Malahi Pakadi crossing key stations at Zero Mile, Bhutnath, and Khemnichak.

Patna Metro comprises an East-west Corridor spanning 16.94km and a North-South Corridor extending 14.45km. The construction of these corridors is also ongoing.

The meeting signals a strong commitment to timely delivery, with clear instructions issued to the construction companies to maintain a swift pace.

Completion of the project will significantly enhance urban mobility and address traffic issues in the rapidly growing city.

Abhay Kumar Singh highlighted the transformative impact the metro system will have on Patna, describing it as a “hassle-free transportation” solution that will produce zero air pollution. Singh also reiterated the push for accelerated construction.

Singh emphasized that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), responsible for the construction, has been directed to expedite the project.

“We are optimistic that the priority corridor, a 6 km stretch from ISBT to Malahi Pakadi crossing, will be ready by August 15, 2024. The construction activities are in full swing with workers operating in a mission mode to achieve the set timeline,’ Singh said.

During the meeting, joint secretary of urban development and housing, Varsha Singh and chief vigilance officer, Vinita Srivastava were present in the meeting apart from other senior officials.

Earlier, Nitin Naveen, the urban development and housing minister of Bihar government visited the ISBT metro depot and access the construction

He inspected the trial track and urged officials to expedite the construction. .

Strategic Importance of Completion of Patna Metro:

The Bihar assembly elections, anticipated in October or November 2025, may be influencing the project’s pace. Completing the priority corridor before the elections could serve as a significant achievement for the state government, showcasing its commitment to infrastructure and public welfare.
