Patna, June 23, 2024: A day after the CBI lodged an FIR in the NEET question paper leak case on the basis of the Economic Offences Unit(EOU) report, investigators now believe that the leak reportedly originated from a private school in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand.

NEET question paper leak into Jharkhand’s private school:

EOU sources said that a question paper booklet bearing the number 6136488 had reached the WhatsApp group of the examination mafia in Patna. That booklet number matches one received by a school in Hazaribagh. The box containing the booklet was also found to be tampered with.

Investigators are probing whether the leak took place between the warehouse and the bank, or between the bank and the exam centre.

EOU findings have identified Sanjeev Mukhiya, an employee of Nursarai Udyan College in Nalanda, as the alleged kingpin of the leak ring. He had been conspiring for months, officials said.

Before the exam, a professor allegedly sent the paper to Sanjeev Mukhiya on WhatsApp. It was then solved with the help of medical students from Patna and Ranchi. The prepared answer set was forwarded to the mobile phone of Chintu Kumar alias Baldev, a resident of Karay Parshurai block in Nalanda.

The EOU has arrested 13 persons in the case:

Investigators also have a list of candidates who were allegedly handed the paper in advance and told to memorise the answers. So far, the EOU has arrested 13 persons in the case, while more suspects are being questioned. The EOU’s SIT has also arrested six persons—including Chintu Kumar—during raids in Deoghar, Jharkhand.

The unit has also identified the doctors who allegedly solved the NEET paper. Ten PG doctors from medical colleges in Patna and Ranchi are under the scanner based on WhatsApp chats recovered from the accused.

The CBI has now formally taken over the probe after lodging the FIR on Saturday night.

On Saturday, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan summoned Nayyar Hasnain Khan, ADC of Bihar’s EOU, to New Delhi and sought details of the case. He presented the evidence indicating that the paper had leaked. The central government subsequently handed over the investigation to the CBI.

The NEET exam was conducted on May 5, while the question paper was allegedly leaked a day earlier, on May 4.
