Patna, August 29: Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar is set to inaugurate the State Sports Academy and Sports University in Rajgir at 3 pm on Thursday, marking the celebration of Sports Day.
This complex, spanning 90 acres, is unique in India for providing training in 24 sports disciplines simultaneously.
The facility will offer comprehensive service, including training, accommodation, and medical care, all within the same campus.
Nitish Kumar had previously inspected the site in August and expedited its inauguration. The project, originally estimated to cost Rs 740 crore, has already reached Rs 851 crore and is projected to rise to Rs 1100 crore by the time the International Cricket Stadium is completed in 2025.
This ambitious project, conceived by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, began with the foundation stone being laid on October 12, 2018. Over Six years, it has developed into a comprehensive sports hub, featuring training for both indoor and outdoor sports. The first phase provides facilities for 19 sports with plans to expand to all types in the future.
The Rajgir International Sports Complex has various facilities, including an administrative building, an academic building, lecture halls, a residential complex, hostels, dining halls, a museum, and a library. Additionally, there is a control room and a 24-bed medical ward equipped with modern facilities like CT scans, X-rays, physiotherapy, massage and pathology services.

During the inauguration, the Nitish Kumar government will honour nine international players with cash prizes. The event includes an exhibition match by the Indian women’s hockey team, the Asian Games winner, on the new hockey turf. The team will continue to practice at the complex until September 1, 2024, allowing trainees from four Eklavya centres in the state to train alongside them.
