Key highlights of the SDRF campus:
The SDRF was established in 2010 to operate on the lines of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). However, the lack of training facilities meant SDRF personnel had to travel to other states for training. This new campus aims to resolve these challenges.
The SDRF facility will comprise an administrative building and auditorium with a 500-person capacity. A training centre for 290 trainees rapid disaster team building for 30 soldiers, a national-level swimming pool for flood relief training, residential facilities having family housing for 108 officers and 150 employees, barracks for 330 soldiers, and other essential facilities, including a mess hall and residences for the commandant and deputy commandant.
The first phase, which includes the administrative building, training facilities, barracks, and residences, is expected to be completed by January 2025.
The remaining constructions, such as the auditorium and swimming pool, are set to be finished by June 2025.
Nitish Kumar directed officials to complete both the projects quickly:
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reiterated the importance of timely completion and high-quality infrastructure of both these projects.
“The campus will provide the necessary facilities for housing, training, and equipping SDRF personnel, ensuring they are better prepared for disaster response operations. This initiative also reflects the government’s commitment to making Bihar self-reliant in disaster management and training,” Kumar said.
Once completed, this facility will serve as a vital hub for training and coordination, enabling efficient disaster response within the state.
