Nitish Kumar reaffirms commitment to NDA during 2nd phase of Pragati Yatra.

Patna January 6, 2025: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during his visit to Vaishali on Monday as part of the Pragati Yatra, reiterated his allegiance to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and dismissed any possibility of exploring new alliances.
Nitish Kumar’s firm stand on the NDA alliance:
Nitish Kumar stated that past suggestions to change alliances were a mistake and emphasized his dedication to maintaining ties with the NDA.
“The mistake was made twice, but now I will remain in NDA. Those who suggested changing alliances were removed,” he said.
Kumar also highlighted his longstanding association with the NDA, reminiscing about his collaborative work with late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Response to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s remarks:
The remarks come after RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav expressed openness to Kumar returning to the RJD fold.
“My door is always open; Nitish Kumar should also keep the door open. Forgiveness has been my job. If he comes back, I will forgive him without any problem. Everyone will work together.”
Kumar, however, has not directly responded to these remarks, reaffirming his commitment to NDA instead.
Nitish Kumar praised the impact of the Jeevika Program, a self-help group initiative aimed at empowering women in Bihar.
Kumar mentioned that the initiative, named “Jeevika” by his administration, was later adopted nationally as “Ajeevika.” It has significant growth in the number of self-help groups and it has expanded to urban areas, enhancing women’s financial independence and confidence.
“Earlier, women did not speak much; now they are confident and financially stable. When I became Chief Minister, we expanded self-help Groups, and it’s wonderful to see their impact.”
Kumar’s statement reflects a clear intent to dispel rumours of shifting political alliances, especially amid Lalu Prasad Yadav’s overtures.
His focus remains on consolidating his position within the NDA and leveraging developmental initiatives to strengthen his government’s image.
