Patna, August 14, 2025: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday conducted an aerial survey of the worst-hit flood-affected regions of Bihar and directed officials to expedite relief and rescue measures.
The flood situation in Bihar has intensified, with over 17 lakh people affected across multiple districts as rivers, including the Ganga, Kosi, and Baghmati, continue to flow above danger levels.
Nitish Kumar held a meeting with officials on Wednesday:
Nitish Kumar’s visit had been planned for August 13 but was postponed due to bad weather. Though he had taken the meeting of officials through video conferencing and given necessary instructions to provide relief to the affected people.
Nitish Kumar always said flood- affected people have the first right on the government treasury.
Accompanied by Water Resources Minister Vijay Chaudhary and senior officials, Nitish Kumar flew from Patna to Bhagalpur to assess the damage and review ongoing relief efforts.

The met department has issued yellow and orange alerts for 24 districts, with Bhagalpur, Bhojpur, Brgusarai, and Navgachhiya among the worst affected.
Floodwaters have inundated low-lying areas, triggering panic and displacing thousands.
Heavy rainfall deepens the crisis:
The Meteorological Centre in Patna has forecast light to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning over the next three to four days, warning that the flood situation could worsen.
Khagaria district recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours at 206 mm, followed by Mansi (188,6 mm), Parsa in Saran (157.4 mm), Taibpur in Kishanganj (135.2 mm), and Raniganj in Araria (122.4 mm).
Patna received 29.1 mm of rain on Wednesday, with intermittent showers causing waterlogging in Kankarbagh, Patna Junction, and Patna City.
Heavy to very heavy rain alerts are in place for northern districts such as Kishanganj, Araria, and Supaul, while moderate rainfall and winds of 30-40 km/h are expected in Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, and other southern districts. Kishanganj also reported wind speeds of 33 km/h.

Farmers and outdoor workers have been urged to take precautions against lightning strikes.
Nitish Kumar assured that the state government is closely monitoring the situation and will take immediate action wherever required to ensure that affected residents receive timely assistance.
