NEET students demanded the cancellation of the examination in Patna
Patna June 15:
Around one hundred NEET students carried out a fierce demonstration on the streets of Patna on Saturday.
The students were demanding the cancellation of the examination. They have burnt the effigy of the education minister and also burnt tires on the road. The protestors assembled at Dinkar roundabout and blocked the road. They have sought slogans against the central government. Due to intense heat, a student fell unconscious as well.
Patna police restored mild baton charges to disperse them. The protests are going on all over the country regarding the NEET paper leak case.
“The students have burnt tires and blocked the road. As the traffic was disrupted, we removed them forcibly. The situation is under control,” said a woman police officer present at the spot.
The protest was triggered in Patna after the EOU of Bihar police served notices to 11 examinees about the leak of question papers. They have been asked to join the probe. EOU has arrested 13 persons in this case so far.
The examination of the NEET was held on May 5 and the examination mafias allegedly obtained the question paper a day earlier.
Among 13 arrested persons, 6 of them are examination mafias, 4 candidates and 3 parents. In this, the candidates have said in their statements that they had received the question paper on May 4, which was made to memorize in Learn Play School located in the jurisdiction of Ram Krishna Nagar police station in Patna. The question paper that came in the examination on 5 May was exactly the same as the question paper received on 4 May.
EOU had found burnt question papers in Learn Play School. Out of these burnt question papers, EOU collected 74 questions at that place and in this, police found three copies of booklet number 6136488.
In such a situation, EOU had asked for the original copy of booklet number 6136488 from NTA about a month ago so that the question paper could be matched. But even after three reminders, NTA has not sent the original copy, due to which the investigation is hampering.
One surprising aspect in this case is that the NEET result, which was earlier scheduled to come on 14 June, came on the day of the Lok Sabha election results on June 4. The most surprising thing is that 67 candidates scored full 720 out of 720 marks in the examination. Similarly, the number of students scoring more than 700 marks was in the thousands.
The cut-off of the result also went up and out of 24 lakh candidates, more than 13 lakh candidates were successful. In this, grace marks were randomly given to 1563 students while there was no such point mentioned in the notification of the exam. In such a situation, NTA said in the court that the grace marks of 1563 students would be canceled and the exam is going to be held again for them on 23 June.
However, the petitioner is not satisfied with just canceling the grace marks. Be it the teachers preparing for NEET or the students, they are demanding to conduct the exam again. Everyone is raising the question on NTA referring the Bihar’s EOU investigation angle and demanding cancellation of the paper.
