Patna, July 11, 2024: Former IAS officer Manish Verma was appointed as the national general secretary of Janata Dal (United) on Thursday.

Verma joined the JD(U) on Tuesday in the presence of the party’s working president, Sanjay Jha, state president Umesh Kushwaha, and cabinet minister Vijay Chaudhary. He is considered to be very close to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Verma has previously served as an advisor to the chief minister and has also held the positions of district magistrate in Patna and Purnea.

Afaque Ahmed Khan, the national general secretary and MLC, confirmed this development, stating that the appointment was made by the National President of JD(U) and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Verma, who recently took voluntary retirement from the government service.

Verma hails from Bihar’s Nalanda district and belongs to the same caste as Nitish Kumar.

This strategic move by Nitish Kumar is seen as a significant step in preparation for the 2025 assembly election.
